UNTITLED
Untitled is a teen-centered program all about bending the rules and shaking up the norm. With pop-up vintage sales featuring self-designed and repurposed clothing and furniture, “not selling out” becomes a form of creative rebellion. Forget about indoor voices and single-file lines—this space is for disrupting, exploring, and breaking free. By taking public donations and reimagining them, young people are empowered to showcase their unique styles and make money. The recording studio and jam room is open to the main space, creating an immersive, authentic garage band experience where creativity knows no boundaries.
This project focuses on an existing building in Providence, RI, situated within two blocks of three Providence Public High Schools that collectively serve over 3,000 students each day. While the immediate area reflects relative economic stability, nearby neighborhoods such as West Elmwood and South Providence experience poverty rates as high as 49%. The vicinity also includes several large low-income housing complexes within walking distance, along with a substantial presence of historic New England Triple Decker residences.
The proposed building is a modest, utilitarian concrete block structure from the 1950s, originally built as a garage for a neighboring bakery. Partially embedded into a slope, it features a single primary entrance on Washington Street. The first floor spans approximately 45 feet by 100 feet, with a mezzanine measuring around 25 feet by 100 feet, resulting in a total available gross area of roughly 7,000 square feet—excluding a second-floor apartment that will remain intact.
